The vision of Harvest Ridge is to be a healthy missional church. While this vision has many components, we want to share what this vision means to our Compassion, Mercy, and Justice (CMJ) Ministry. This ministry provides tangible ways of extending the love of Jesus in deed and the justice of God’s kingdom to the marginalized, the powerless, and the oppressed. We are committed to providing opportunities, encouragement, and education about CMJ to the Harvest Ridge community locally, regionally, and throughout the world.
2013, for the CMJ Ministry, was a year of blessing in so many ways: the ministry team has grown from an idea into a budgeted ministry with a dedicated ministry team in place, and the team has active ministries in place for local, regional, and in partnership with our denomination, World Vision, and Harvesters, throughout the world.
Locally, we have partnered with Harvesters to provide food for children through the BackSnack program, where HRCC serves as a community partner for packing and distributing food during the school year for weekend consumption by children who have needs right here in Bonner Springs. We have contributed to Shawnee Community Services financially, sponsored clothing drives, and currently have congregants who transport donated bread to SCS from local grocers. For 2014, we are utilizing our building resources and plan to open our doors for a Western Shawnee AA and Marion Hope Center for Autistic Children, as well as continuing our current local ministries.
Regionally, HRCC has again amassed hundreds of hours of volunteer time at City Union Mission and True Light Ministries (TLM). Our partnership with these organizations and these personal relationships are at the heart of what we feel God expects from us. We have partnered with Community Life Church to continue to jointly serve our youth and assist True Light Ministries as well as continuation of our mutual support for “What if the Church?” The weekly sewing and counseling program at TLM and the special project to expand and update the kitchen are truly making a difference in the region. Next year will be our fourth year of partnering with TLM and building a relationship with their pastor and support team, whose work in the region is making a difference in the lives of people and introducing them to our Lord and Savior.
Globally, we have relationships with three sets of Covenant Missionaries and have supported them financially and with prayer. In China, Belgium, and Mexico, our Evangelical Covenant Church tithes have enabled the hand of God to reach out to where the need is on a worldwide scale. Additionally, the Harvest Ridge family and friends have sponsored 46 children through the Covenant Kids Congo Initiative. The generosity of these sponsors will provide these children and their families with the benefit of clean water, education, healthcare, food resources, and economic development. Much joy comes about during the Christmas season as families pack shoeboxes for Samaritan's Purse - Operation Christmas Child.
It is only by the generosity and faithful giving of the Harvest Ridge congregation that our mission for lost people to be found and hurting people to be helped reaches further and further, providing hope to many.
