John Prepares the Way for God's Kingdom by...

- Fulfilling Old Testament Revelation

     Luke 1:16-17 refer to Malachi 3:1; 4:5-6 and several places in Deuteronomy e.g. Deut. 4:9; 11:19

- Calling for Repentance

     Repentance - to see the error of your life and change the course

- Proclaiming a Redeemer

     Zechariah prophesies the Redeemer will:

       1. Raise up a horn of salvation

       2. Be a descendant of David - fulfills 2 Samuel 7

       3. show that God will remember his Promise to Abraham

    Redeem - to gain or regain something in exchange for a payment

Why did John come with message of repentance before Jesus?

- The people needed to see they were going down the wrong path and were in need of redemption

How do we respond:

1. We acknowledge we are going the wrong way - confession

2. We trust God's faithfulness to redeem

3. We praise God as King and Redeemer with our words and actions
