This week is Communion Sunday, so most of our worship will be solely focused on Christ’s sacrifice and redeeming grace. The world needs to hear the gospel now more than ever. My notes are short this week, but I hope that you will be able to take some time and listen to these songs and meditate on the texts as you prepare for worship.

Philippians 4:12-13

12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength. 

Ephesians 2:8-9

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 

I’m sure that all of us have had days that feel like we are the only one in the fight, or that everything relies on us. We work harder but get even further from our goals. We continually slam our heads into the same proverbial wall. With our constant striving, and the state of the world, it can be hard to accept that we have already been given everything.

It is finished; there is nothing that we can do to add to the work that Christ has already completed. I have learned that the more I struggle to fix things myself, the harder it becomes. It is in the realization of my inadequacy and need that I allow Christ to take His proper place in my life. I don’t deserve it, but He gives this all freely. Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy my righteousness and freedom
My steadfast love my deep and boundless peace

To this I hold my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to his
Oh how strange and divine I can sing all is mine
Yet not I but through Christ in me
