Preacher: Pastor Jeff Flanagan Series: 1 Corinthians Scripture: 1 Corinthians 11:17–34
Sermon Outline for April 3, 2022
1 Corinthians: Eating and Proclaiming Christ
1 Corinthians 11:17-34
Introduction
The Problem in the Church: vv. 17-22
- Disunity between groups (v. 18)
- Pride in social status (v. 19)
- Self-serving attitude (vv. 21-22)
The Example of Jesus: vv. 23-26
Paul’s Solution for the Church: vv. 27-34
Application:
- Let each of us examine our actions towards others and make amends where we may have hurt them.
- Let each of us examine our contribution to the body of Christ, whether we are more self-serving or more self-giving.
Questions for Discussion:
- Has there ever been another Christian you felt wronged or hurt you? How was the issue resolved? Have you done something that wronged or hurt another believer?
- Is there anyone in your life now that you need to make amends with?
- On balance, would you say your relationship to the body of Christ is more ‘self-serving’ or ‘self-giving’? Why do you think this is?
- Some of the Corinthian Christians had a sinful pride in their social status. Some Christians today might struggle with pride in their beliefs or their actions (looking down on those who think or act differently). What is the area you are most likely to struggle with a sinful pride?
