1 Corinthians: Building with Gifts

1 Corinthians 12:12-31

Introduction

Our Common Foundation (vv. 12-14)

(1) we are members of Christ’s singular body

(2) we were baptized in—and drink from—the same Spirit

Our Different Giftings (vv. 15-24a)

(1) every part belongs (vv. 15-16)

(2) every part has a function and purpose (v. 18)

(3) every part is needed (vv. 21-22)

Our Corporate Action (vv. 24b-31)

(1) be unified (vv. 24b-25a)

(2) live out our part/gifting

Sending Word: Romans 12:1, Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view  of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to  God—this is your true and proper worship.

Questions for Discussion

  • What giftings do you believe God has given you for benefiting the Body of  Christ? (You might reference the ‘gifts’ listed in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 28, as  well as Romans 12:6-8).
  • Do you ever question God’s giftings or your ability to serve the Body of  Christ? Why do you think this is?
  • What factors should produce ‘unity’ in the way we live out our giftings?
  •  What are ways you might encourage another Christian to utilize their gifts?
