Women and Speaking? (vv. 34-35)
1 Corinthians 11:4-6, Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5But every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head…
Paul’s Heart and Purpose for the Church in this Passage:
We seek to build up and edify the church in our gatherings (v. 26). We seek to edify through our teaching and encouraging (v. 31).
To live out Paul’s purposes and goal, we must be engaged in the Body of Christ.
Matthew 7:24-27, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Questions for Discussion:
- How much do you encourage others in the church? In what specific ways do you encourage people? (Give some examples)
- Who is someone who encourages or edifies your faith?
- What are your “connection points” to the church? Is there an area that is lacking that would be edifying and encouraging to your faith?
