1 Corinthians: God’s Generosity and Ours
1 Corinthians 16:1-24
Context: 1 Corinthians 15
- v. 10, “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not
without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace
of God that was with me.”
- v. 57-58, “But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord
Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let
nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the
Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.”
Sermon: In light of the Gospel and future resurrection, we set aside a portion of
our income for serving and blessing those in need (vv. 1-4)
Verse 2:
a). “On the first day of every week...”
“Firstfruit” tithes and offerings supports: (1) religious festivals and
feasts; (2) the temple and priesthood; (3) the poor and needy
b). “Each of you...”
c). “Should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your
income.”
Conclusion: Risking for the Kingdom of God (vv. 8-9)
