Journeying Together: The Word of God

Main Point:
Proclaiming God’s Word is one essential way we accomplish our mission because God reveals
himself through the Bible, and we believe what is revealed about God has the power to transform
us and make us a blessing in the world.
Outline:
I. What is the Word of God?
A. The Bible is first and foremost a place to commune with God.
II. What does the Word of God do?
A. It has the power to transform us.
1. We are transformed as we connect relationally with the living God.
2. We are transformed as we encounter the message of Jesus and the gospel.
Application:
If the Word of God has the power to transform us and make us a blessing in the world, we should
respond by reading it.
Reflection Questions:
1) Reflect on each of the following words that can be used to describe the Bible. What questions,
emotions or thoughts do these words produce?
Dependable, Altar, Promise, Transformative, Light
Pick any passage of Scripture. Before you read it, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you see God
as the one speaking. What kind of response would strengthen your relationship with the One
who is speaking?
