2 CORINTHIANS: Jesus, Lord, and Glory
2 Corinthians 4:1-6
Introduction
The message of Polycarp and Paul—“Jesus Christ is Lord.”
Text of 2 Cor 4:1-6
vv. 1-2, “We do not distort the gospel, but set forth the truth plainly”
vv. 3-6:
Verse 4 – Satan... Verse 6 – God...
...has blinded the minds of unbelievers. ...has shone his light in our hearts.
In order to obscure the light of the Gospel In order to give light of knowledge
...that displays the glory of Christ ...[the knowledge] of God’s glory
...who is the image of God ...displayed in the face of Christ.
Key verse: v. 5, “For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord”
Philippians 2:9-11,
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
Questions for discussion:
• When asked “What is wrong with the world?” G. K. Chesterton replied with two
words: “I am.” What do you think of this response? Why might this be the right
response for Christians to have?
• What are some areas of your life where you know and believe true things about God
(right theology), but you do not consistently live out the implications of those truths
(right practice)?
