DANIEL: Faithfulness in Babylon V

Preacher: Pastor Jeff Flanagan Series: DANIEL Scripture: Daniel 5:1-31

Sermon Outline for July 23, 2023
Faithfulness in Babylon V || Daniel 5:1-31

Introduction:
“If the work be all human it will die with me. If it be all His, it will live for ages
to come. Souls are being lost in the meantime. . . . Fear not for me. It does not
matter what happens to me.”

Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu

“Weighed and Found Wanting.” In this chapter, King Belshazzar
demonstrates:
• a lack of reverence for God (vv. 1-4)
• a lack of understanding (vv. 13-16)
• a lack of humility (vv. 22-23)
Points for Israel to learn from this story:
• God, not Babylon, is sovereign over the events of history.
• The lavish wealth and glamor of Babylon is ultimately empty and futile.
Application for today: Give yourself fully to God and to His kingdom.
Sending Word: Romans 14:8-9,
8
If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether
we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and
returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
